The formula

How to convert cm to feet

One exact constant does all the work: a foot is defined as exactly 30.48 centimeters. Divide, split, done.

  1. Step 01
    cm ÷ 30.48

    Divide by 30.48

The centimeter value divided by 30.48 gives decimal feet. 170 ÷ 30.48 = 5.577 ft.

  2. Step 02
    ⌊5.577⌋ = 5

    Keep whole feet

The whole-number part is your feet. Here that is 5 ft, with 0.577 ft left over.

  3. Step 03
    0.577 × 12

    Remainder × 12

Multiply the leftover decimal by 12 to get inches. 0.577 × 12 ≈ 6.93 in.

  4. Result
    5 ft 6.93 in

    Read it back

So 170 cm ≈ 5.58 ft, or 5 ft 6.93 in. Going the other way, multiply feet by 30.48.

Metric plan, imperial buyers?

Converting wall-by-wall is the slow way to make a metric floor plan feel familiar. Upload the plan itself and Foyria renders a 45° 3D overview, core room renders, and a guided listing tour — dimensions readable at a glance, in any unit system.

FIELD NOTE — A “3.6 × 2.7 m bedroom” reads as 11′10″ × 8′10″ to a US buyer. A 3D overview makes both readings unnecessary.

FAQ

Asked every day.

The exact answers behind the converter — same math, spelled out.

What is the formula to convert cm to feet?

Divide the centimeter value by 30.48. One foot is defined as exactly 30.48 cm, so 170 cm ÷ 30.48 = 5.577 ft. Multiply by 30.48 to go back.

How do I convert cm to feet and inches?

Divide by 2.54 to get total inches, take the whole feet (÷ 12), and keep the remainder as inches. 170 cm = 66.93 in = 5 ft 6.93 in.

Is 180 cm equal to 6 feet?

Not quite. 180 cm is 5 ft 10.87 in — about an inch short. Exactly 6 ft is 182.88 cm.

How many feet is 100 cm (1 meter)?

100 cm = 3.2808 ft, or 3 ft 3.37 in. A quick mental shortcut: meters × 3.28 ≈ feet.

Why do floor plans mix centimeters and feet?

Most of the world draws plans in metric, while US listings quote feet and inches. If you are marketing a property across both audiences, converting one number at a time is tedious — a rendered 3D overview communicates scale without units.
